Real Talk: Are K-12 Nonprofits & EdTech Driving Inequity?
In education, we talk a lot about how school systems are designed to produce exactly the outcomes they do for students and communities. But what if the nonprofit and ed tech sectors are part of the problem? What if how we work, alone and together, is designed to produce exactly the kind of inequitable outcomes we’re asking districts and teachers to address? In this candid session, we’ll talk about the ways the K-12 support sector is contributing to inequity for learners, and we’ll explore ways to change how we work, scale, and measure our impact to change that.
Speakers:
- Beth Rabbitt, Chief Executive Officer, The Learning Accelerator
- Leona Christy, CEO/Founder, Catalyst:Ed
Transforming Power in Orgs to Advance Educational Equity
Power has historically been hoarded and used to create disparities, yet we don’t have strong examples of effective power-sharing. To advance educational outcomes we must improve our ability to mitigate inequities by sharing power in decisions that impact communities. Drawing on case studies from our organizations, presenters will share the good, the bad, and the ugly of implementing inclusive and participatory decision-making frameworks in order to increase equitable outcomes – ultimately, for kids.
Speakers:
- Stephen Pham, Managing Director, Organizational Operations, Culture, & Health, The Learning Accelerator
- Mary Rice-Boothe, Executive Director, Curriculum Development and Equity, The Leadership Academy
- Kristen Vogt, Knowledge Management Officer, Next Generation Learning Challenges
