Grant to support programs aimed at nationwide implementation of blended learning
Cupertino, CA – July 21, 2015 – The Learning Accelerator, the catalyst transforming American K-12 education through blended learning on a national scale, today announced that it has received an unrestricted grant totaling $500,000 over two years from Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Corporation, established by Andrew Carnegie in 1911, is a philanthropic foundation committed to promoting the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding.
“We are delighted to support The Learning Accelerator and its highly-effective approach to overcoming the functional and operational barriers to personalized learning that are still common across the country,” said LaVerne Evans Srinivasan, the Corporation’s Vice President, National Program and Director, Education. “We believe this model is an important complement to the work of our other grantees and will help generate more and better-quality uptake of personalized learning for all students.”
“Carnegie Corporation of New York is known for working on high leverage problems that affect large numbers of students,” said Scott Ellis, CEO of The Learning Accelerator. “This aligns with our view that truly transforming education means doing so on a national scale, reaching all 50+ million American students. The Corporation’s generous support of our role as a catalyst for blended learning is significant not only for the funding it provides, but also for the opportunities it provides us to collaborate with leading thinkers and doers in public education.”
Blended learning is the strategic integration of in-person instruction and technology to enable personalized learning, competency-based progression and the use of real-time data to improve student performance. The Learning Accelerator is a nonprofit organization engaged on a broad front to overcome the barriers to implementing blended learning, working directly with district, states, and other organizations to develop solutions that can be enacted on a national scale. Focus areas include competency-based learning, teacher training, open educational resources, results measurement, and Internet connectivity, among others.
